National 4 & 5 Graphic Communication
Pupils build upon the various methods of graphic communication they have encountered in S1-S3, deepening their knowledge and skills. They will also develop several new techniques, manual and computer based as they progress through National 4 & 5
Elements covered include:
Promotional drawing
Pupils will be set an integrated graphic design and drawing / illustration portfolio task by the exam board, to allow them to demonstrate their learning. This will account for 33% of the course marks. A final exam will account for the other 67% of course marks.

- Graphic type Preliminary drawing
Promotional drawing
- Freehand technical sketching Rendering, shading using a range of graphics media
- Orthographic drawing using manual and computer (CAD) methods, including architectural plans and design for manufacture;
- Illustrations, such as product advertisements – using manual and computer techniques; DTP, CAG
- Familiarisation with international drawing standards;
- Learning to read drawings and diagrams and making use of the information retrieved.
