National 4 & 5 Design and Manufacture
This course replaces Standard Grade Craft & Design.
Pupils learn about traditional and modern design and manufacturing methods and get first hand experience of manufacturing in the department, as far as our facilities allow.
The course is project based. Typically a project progresses from brief, to research, design, development, manufacture, evaluation. Some projects have a workshop based final product, some are prototype / mock-ups, others terminate with a design only. 45% percent of the course marks are available in a final written exam. The other 55 % requires pupils to respond to a design and manufacture brief set by the SQA exam board.
